This hermitage is certainly the oldest. It has an almost square floor plan with two buildings attached to the left and right of the entrance door, and with a dome at the top. It is quite similar to an Arab marabout, due to its forma and location in an unpopulated area. The vault is topped in the centre by a prismatic structure that serves as a triangulation station or as a measurement of the height level. The interior surface area is about 50 square metres.

It is located on a terrain elevation, close to the Peón hill and the path and fountain of La Casa, in a fenced space from the Zamoreja property. This property belongs to Cipriano Torres Rosa, a neighbour of the town, also known as “El Olivero”.

It received more significance and using between the 18th and 19th century, when colonists settled around the Zamoreja property. At that time, it belonged to the Marquis of Bélgida and San Juan de Piedras Albas, who also held the noble title of Castrofuerte, which was the most common one for the inhabitants of Zahínos.

According to a report of the parish priest at the time, it is known that in 1828 was already in ruins. He wrote about existing monuments in the town and explained that “it was in a unpopulated area, ruined, half a league away from the town, in the Dehesa of Zamoreja...”.

Pascual Madoz also refered to it as “ruined” in his Historical and Geografical Dictionary of Extremadura (1845-50).

There is another theory about the hermitage, far from ridiculous: according to its typical construction and the spot where it is located, it might have been a Franciscan monastery. Probably, the altarpiece of San Antonio Abad and maybe the sculpture of Cristo de la Salud came from there. There are facts, words and terms enough to justify thiss origin, such as the spot, far from the population, deserted, with a cultivation area, a well, and fruit trees. It is meaninful that the path and fountain are still known as La Casa (Franciscan) (The Franciscan House in English). It could probably indicate that the monastery was established there.

Its current owner keeps it in really good conditions. However, the access is quite difficult, since the paths are in poor conditions and it is only possible to get there with the appropriate vehicles or beasts.
