In the past, Zahínos had a castle or fortification of which nowadays only the tower in the upper area remains. The town hall, erected several decades ago, is attached to this tower with an unsuitable architectural design.

The Castle of Zahínos is a defensive building whose origins date back to the mid-15th century. Historically, its name was "Castro Fuerte". It was a military fortification built on the top of a hill in the highest part of Zahinos.

The present-day town grew up around this fortification, which also houses the parish church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios.

It is a cylindrical tower made entirely of masonry. It rests on an also cylindrical base of about 1.5 metres high that is slightly larger in diameter than the tower. With this configuration, it seems that the tower rests on a kind of podium and is raised off the ground.

Considering that the only remaining part of the castle is the tower, it is not easy to imagine the appearance of the old castle.

Little is known about this historic enclave from the past, only its Templar origin. Not many remains have been preserved either, as only the thirteen-metre-high northeast tower has survived to the present day.
